Health Care of a newborn baby / Child

Care of a newborn baby.

Here are some things to keep in mind:

# Wash your hands (or use hand sanitizer) before touching your baby. Newborns do not have a strong immune system yet, so they are at risk of infection.

# Ask everyone who handles the baby to wash their hands.

# Support your baby's head and neck. Hold the head while carrying the baby or when you put the head down on your baby.

# Whether in play or frustration, don't shake your newborn. Concussions can lead to brain bleeding and even death. If your baby needs to be woken up, don't shake them – instead, lift your baby's legs or give them a light stroke on the cheek.

# Make sure your baby is safely secured in a carrier, stroller, or car seat. Any activity that may be too rough or vigorous is limited.

# Remember that your newborn is not ready for rough play, such as kneeling or kicking up.
