Baby Bathing Tips
# You should give your baby a sponge bath.
# The tubular cord falls off and the umbilical cord heals completely (1-4 weeks).
# Circumcision healing (1-2 weeks).
# A bath two or three times in the first week. More frequent bathing can dry out the skin.
Prepare these items before bathing your baby:
# A soft, clean cloth.
# Mild, unscented baby soap and shampoo.
# A soft brush that stimulates baby scales.
# Towel or blanket.
# A clean towel.
# Clean clothes.
Sponge bath, For a sponge bath, choose a safe, flat surface (such as a changing table, floor, or counter) in a warm room. Fill a basin, if nearby, or bowl with warm (not hot!) water.
Carpet your baby and wrap him in a towel. Wash your baby's eyes with a washcloth (or a clean cotton ball) starting with the eye only and drying from the inner corner to the outer corner. Use a clean corner of a washcloth or other cotton ball to wash the other eye.
Clean your baby's nose and ears with a damp washcloth. Then wet the cloth again and gently wash his face using a little soap and dry it.
Next, using baby shampoo, make a lather and gently wash your baby's head. Using a damp cloth and soap, gently wash the rest of the body, paying special attention to the underarms, behind the ears, around the neck, and the genital area. Once you wash the area, be sure. Dry them and then towel and dress your baby.
